21.09 km | Fairly flat |
Lucerne, Switzerland

  • Well organized, beautiful, approachable.

  • Scenery and environment (10k runners, mostly in the half; 60k spectators).

Late race start made it very easy to fuel and dress. Very well supported stations with a great fuel sponsor (the swiss sport fuel brand Sponser).

It is run with swiss efficiency!

  • Slightly more expensive to go to than other races (Switzerland is $$).

  • Anyone looking for a beautiful, scenic, fairly flat, well run half marathon.

Anyone looking to practice their German.

Anyone looking for a race location that doubles as a weekend away, maybe with a friend.

Anyone happy to run amongst cows and alphorns!

  • Buy either lunch or dinner at grocery stores (Co-op or Migros) to save money, they have great options.

Don't run the full marathon UNLESS they make the full different from two loops of the half (they are thinking about changing it but this year it was two loops, which would get very boring, and by far most of the runners do the half).

Eat lots of chocolate, rösti, and sausages.

  • The race provides two free train tickets (one each way) which is great to help reduce costs.

The race is overall flat, with a few mild to moderate hills that are over in the first half.
