216 km | 4,000 m of elevation |
Anglesey, North Wales

  • Small. Friendly. Fun

  • This is probably my favourite ultra: it's a lap of Anglesey over three days of about 57km, 105km, 53km.

It's a small field with everybody spending the two nights in local halls which means that you get to know the other runners really well. And the support from locals, the event crew and other runners' supporters is just amazing.

There are also some checkpoints where you tear pages out of books to show that you've been there which is obviously reminiscent of another exciting race!

When we finished on day 3, it was a glorious day and we lay in the sun drinking free beer whilst they played disco tunes interspersed with Johnny Cash every time another finisher came in.

  • The first day was pretty hot which I struggled with a bit, and there is a bit of running on sand and shingle which is always a bit sapping.

The middle day is long and you need to be wary of cutoffs.

  • Anyone who has run an ultra or two and is considering longer / multi-days ultras.

This gives you a good introduction to finishing and having to sort yourself out, grab a few hours sleep and get out again.

  • Don't go out too hard on the first day, the second day is a long one.

But enjoy the scenery and support, get through day 2 and you've cracked it.

  • Get used to loving Johnny Cash!
